about

Cut in two halves, like the moon in motion, the album is guiding the listener through the story of a woman, of many women, many personas and voices – mythical, dreamlike and real. They are wandering through emotional landscapes, confronted with the forces of nature that shaped them, swaying like waves in geometrical tides, dandled by oscillating ebbs of delusion and flows of dreamlike illusion, burning and flourishing in blue lagoons and finally finding rest on lyrical islands. In an elemental mess of constructed and deconstructed sounds, the warmth of the organ, yearning vocals, playful flutes and bloodcurdling basses, their words and stories are resonating.

The title track "Cut in Half" and its accompanying music video tell the story of a disoriented and disembodied woman inhabited by a draining second persona. Together they are caught in a mirror-cage of self-referentiality, in a roller coaster of exhaustion or free-floating in a hermetically closed room. In a grounding attempt they devote themselves to the contemplation of the moon – an ever-occurring image in Japanese art. For the video’s imagery and performance the artist was inspired by the widely revered traditional Japanese theatre as well as Pina Bausch’s legendary Tanztheater. Working together with Leipzig-based film collective verflimmert, Eddna was directing and editing the video.
